Chapter 13 | Diary of a Green Man

In the previous chapter of the Diary of a Greenman, I talked about bossism and successful leadership. In this chapter too, I’d like to further discuss that point. This is because the biggest basis of successful leadership or management lies in the collaborative efforts of the organization. And in any organization teamwork only happens when the leader maintains good relations with everyone in the organization or tries to get to know them through periodic visits or discussions. There was a whole era before I got into business, when work was done under absolute authority and workers had no say in the company matters. Of course, the Autocratic style of leadership has also seen success. And I have no personal opinion on that method. But my approach has always been humane and emotional. So when the responsibility came to me, I decided to work in a slightly different and participative way. As part of that effort, I increased my visits on the shop floor and waved to the workers whenever I came across them. Or sometimes I would stand up and talk to them, take reports from them, and ask suggestions on what improvements can be done. I’d also make the staff feel proud of their efforts by praising them for their contribution in the company’s growth. Then automatically a practice arose that whoever stood in front of me would stand respectfully and tell me ‘Jai Shri Krishna’ with utmost love. Due to the practice that arose only out of love, today there is a situation where even a Muslim party or worker gets involved, they say Jai Shri Krishna with his hands on his heart for half a moment. Of course, at the time, I was advised that this affiliative leadership approach of mine would spoil the workers and they would not take me seriously! I used to laugh at that advice, then and even today, because my company Zenitex is the only industry that has received the highest award several times. It has been possible only by encouraging harmony and forming collaborative relationships within teams. My organization has been awarded five times the National Award of the Government of India for Environment Protection and Energy Conservation. It has also received many awards from the Gujarat Government. Your good dealings with the workers or employees do not spoil them or make them take you for granted. Instead it can promote trust and team spirit and cooperation from employees. In fact, with the love we give and the appreciation of their work they become more co-operative and align themselves with the Infinite Vision we have seen. As well as increasing our productivity by keeping our dreams on their shoulders. I also believe that when we have the opportunity to lead something or we occupy an important position, you cannot lead the whole organization all alone. Rather, it is a collective effort. And collective efforts always follow the principle of karma. I will explain this in detail. Let’s assume I have a revolutionary idea. But where do I get such a team? Who can understand my idea with the same intensity as mine? Let’s find a team like that, but how can it be that the right thing is done at the right time? Let’s assume that the right work has been done, but how can that work get the right acknowledgment? Can’t all the factors be right every time? But in my case I have seen that happen because I have always believed in love and respect. So the success you get is not yours alone. It is the fruit of a collaborative effort and that is why it is so important for you to keep the spirit of collaboration and communication alive. That spirit only comes from humbleness. When I talk to young people or next generation entrepreneurs, I often say that proper earthing is very important for any powerhouse. Any powerhouse is likely to get a short circuit if earthing is incorrect i.e. not connected to the ground. So the same principle applies to successful leadership, that it is essential to be grounded to be a successful leader. If you look at the game of chess, then in chess also the king and queen get a checkmate and return to their home. This signified that even if we are in top position today, we may move down. So why not approach your team with love and warmth? I consider that an effective strategy is very necessary and that can be applied in all spheres of life, either it be management or personal. The Earth is infinite but our Life on earth is finite and so is the cycle of our life i.e – childhood to oldage and finally death. Then our strategy must be infinite at such a time, so that the practice of love is maintained even after us. That’s why I’m always thinking about how to be humble with everyone. How can I solve their questions or what can I do to make everyone around me happy and satisfied? However, one thing is for sure, I do not take such an approach only in terms of competition or best performance. My approach is to be kind to those who work under me or work for me, and make them feel comfortable. I believe that a large section of the society has not been able to get an education or due to lack of opportunities are forced to do small jobs. So it becomes our moral responsibility as an educated as well as thoughtful person not to add to their difficulties because of our rude attitude. Because our economic shortcomings lead to many shortcomings at once. On the other hand, due to lack of education, this class also has to face more difficulties on the social front. This includes many social customs and misconceptions that break the spirit of an individual. The only hope of the oppressed class from all sides is their work, which will give them a little more income and they can escape from their problems by keeping busy at work. At such a time, if they are ill-treated at work or their contribution is not appreciated, even nature will not be happy. Somewhere Divine Power also gets hurt when they are hurt by our behavior. And if they are very happy with our good deeds then Divine Power is also very happy and showers blessings on us too! After all there is also something like the Principle of Karma. We reap what we sow. So we have to decide whether our karma should be pure or impure with someone’s tears? Because as an organization we cannot bring about a change in the socio-economic conditions that nature has placed in them. We can’t get rid of all their problems even if we want to. But at the least, we can always treat them well and sometimes encourage them even if they make small mistakes. Because such matters are of utmost importance to them. After all, if someone is happy with our positive attitude or our loving behavior, can’t we give such a small happiness in someone’s life? And when you make satisfying progress as well as make others happy, your success is both glorious and lasting. And the most important thing is that if you want to please God, you don’t have to retire or take celibacy. God can only be appeased through our good actions – pure karma. yes, It can be achieved through business!
