Tree Ganesha: A Unique Environmental Movement

The 'Tree Ganesha' campaign, initiated by Viral Desai in 2018, is a groundbreaking initiative that merges religious fervor with environmental advocacy. This unique campaign involves installing Lord Ganesha statues within trees and conducting nature conservation awareness programs during the 10-day Ganesha festival.

With its annual theme-based approach, 'Tree Ganesha' has been instrumental in raising environmental consciousness. Themes such as 'Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection' and 'Champions of the Earth' have highlighted pressing global issues. In 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign went virtual with the 'Tree Ganesha – Each One Plant One' movement, engaging people worldwide.

The campaign's focus on 'Satyagraha Against Pollution and Climate Change' has been central in recent years. Initiatives like the 'Wall of Disaster' and 'Wall of Hope' have showcased the devastating impacts of climate change and the positive work being done by organizations like the Hearts at Work Foundation.

'Tree Ganesha' has gained significant recognition, with the Gujarat Forest Department officially joining the movement. Additionally, the Surat Police and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board have also supported the campaign. Through its efforts, the campaign has distributed over four lakh trees and reached over two lakh people, making a lasting impact on environmental awareness and action.
