Modiji's third term will be a term of climate action
We have repeatedly said in this column that India will lead in the field of climate action. I have often mentioned how we will lead and become world leaders in the field of climate action in this column. If you want to see proof of this, then look at a government report, in which it is said that in the year 2023-24, the share of coal in the total installed electricity capacity of India has gone below fifty percent. I believe that this figure is historical because on one hand the countries of the world are talking about renewable energy and on the other hand India is using renewable energy significantly by reducing the need of coal for electricity, which is a matter of immense praise. The credit for this achievement of ours goes to only one person, our Prime Minister Modi, whom I call the 'Architect of Amritpath'.
If we look at the figures now, 71% of the share in the current financial year has come from renewable sources. So currently we get 15GW of electricity from solar energy and 3.3GW of electricity from wind energy. This is no small matter. Asian countries are considered poor and backward. According to statistics, many countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are extremely backward economically and educationally. Now if a country like India, which is very vast geographically, and where lots of focus and work is being done on education, health and infrastructure, and still if we can achieve such a success in implementing renewable energy, then it can be termed as a historical event.
Besides, this is still a trailer. In the third term of Narendra Modi government, important work is still to be done in the direction of climate action in the field of renewable energy. After all, this is the first election in the country in which energy conservation has been discussed, and the Prime Minister is promising to reduce people's electricity bills to zero in his election rallies. I am not a political expert, hence I will not comment on the election promises, but personally I can say that if renewable energy is discussed in the general elections of the country, then this is also the mark of a visionary leader. Because our opposition is saying only one thing that Narendra Modi will destroy the Constitution of the country!
I do not understand how the Constitution can be abolished in a country where the judiciary, bureaucracy, and legislative assembly function independently. But I want to ask the opposition whether they have asked any questions besides the issue of the Constitution? Have they ever promised that if elected to power, then we will reduce the electricity bills of the people of the country to zero or that we will get you money from generating electricity? Narendra Modi is also saying that he will give subsidy to the people of the country for installing solar panels in their homes and will also provide income to the people by purchasing the electricity generated from their homes.
And these were the election promises. That means it is a matter of future. But what is currently happening in Indian Railways? Again, Indian Railways is also an example of India's visionary leadership and India's vision on renewable power resources. The Indian Railways, where an entire population of a country like Australia travels everyday, there more than 30 percent of the Indian Railways' energy is generated from renewable energy and the entire railways will be switching to renewable energy by the year 2030, that is no small achievement!
Also, the PM Suryaghar Yojana is in its primary stage. In his third term, Narendra Modi is going to work on this scheme with personal interest, and like the was he led the Swachh Bharat Mission, he is going to promote the Suryaghar scheme. Even at present, under this scheme, every household is given a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 for rooftop solar. It is a matter of joy that, until now, about one crore registration has been received in this scheme, all of whom will be provided solar panels with proper documentation.
After reading all these figures and listening to the reports of all these schemes, I feel extremely satisfied. At the same time, I feel extremely proud as an Indian. After all, the impression in the world about India is that we are a developing nation, and our priorities are set. But we have kept environment protection and climate among our priorities. That is why in this journey of our development, we are actually getting the blessings of nature. And that is why I can also say that Modiji's third term will be the term of climate action.
